Large Spode New Stone 'Japan' Pattern Centrepiece Comport c1824 (Sold)

 A large and impressive Spode's New Stone centrepiece comport with handles modelled as twigs and leaves. An early 'Japan' pattern, reminiscent of the slightly later 'Amherst Japan' pattern. Patterned all over with an underglaze blue print of urns and vases of flowers hand painted in iron red, cobalt blue, turquoise and leaf green. (Pattern 3875). Highlights with rich gilding. In excellent order; no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear - rare to find, especially in this condition. Impressed 'Spode's New Stone'. Overall width 35cm (13.75in)
