A large porter mug made to commemorate the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester railway in 1830. Printed in sepia with hand coloured detail it depicts a landscape with early steam locomotive (the 'Express'), carriages and trailers (one carrying a horse drawn carriage). In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear or use. A rare size to find, especially in such good order. Printed H & B (Hampson and Broadhurst) with RAILWAY on a scroll. Height 13cm (5.1in), diameter 12.75cm (5in)
