Large Clarice Cliff Original Bizarre Geometric Jug c1929

An original Bizarre octagonal jug on a lovely old Wilkinson's shape. Lined and trimmed in green with boldly painted diamonds in blue, iron red and yellow. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. The blue is exceptionally good, as it was often prone to oxidise in the kiln. A large and impressive example of these early geometric wares and a rare shape to find, especially in such good order. Produced in the first year or so of Clarice Cliff's original designs. Gold 'Bizarre by Clarice Cliff, Newport Pottery' signature backstamp (used briefly in 1929) over a Wilkinson's Pottery mark. Height 20cm (7.9in)
