Large 19th Century Wardle Majolica 'Bamboo and Banana Leaf' Pitcher or Jug c1880

A superb large Wardle and Co. of Hanley majolica jug in the form of bamboo stems held together with a banana leaf; the handle also in the form of tied bamboo stems. A lovely lilac/pink interior. In good condition although there is a 1 inch tight hairline to the rim and a slight firing split to a bamboo joint on the handle (image 5). Still an impressive jug which displays beautifully. Sometimes seen with a diamond registration number for Wardle c1871, this is a slightly later version c1880 and unmarked. Height 20.25cm (8in)
