A rare Jones and Son of Hanley (operating 1826-28) plate, 'Signing of Magna Carta' from their British History series. Printed in medium blue with barons and bishops presenting the charter to King John at Runnymede in 1215. Framed by a fine border which features alternating motifs of a crown and mitre with rose, shamrock and thistles, with groups of military and naval items. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration. Mild age related crazing really only noticed under close inspection. Rare to find, especially in such good order. Printed mark with Gothic screen and the words 'British History' and below this 'Signing of Magna Charta'. A shield rests against the screen with the maker's name Jones & Son, with Britannia to the right and to the left a woman holding a scroll. Diameter 25cm (9.95in)
