John Meir 'Loch Creran' Northern Scenery (Scotland) Series Jug c1840 (Sold)

A large Northern Scenery jug by John Meir & Son depicting 'Loch Creran with the Castle of Barcaldine' , taken from engravings of Scotland by William Beattie. There is a hairline to one side where it has suffered a 'knock' and a glaze crack to the base which doesn't go through (see images). Still a fine item which displays well and is completely stable. A rare and imposing item. Large printed underglaze blue 'Lion and Unicorn' mark with 'Northern Scenery' and 'Loch Creran with Barcaldine Castle'. Height 14cm (5.5in)
