John and William Ridgway 'Clare Hall, Cambridge' Dessert Plate c1820

An early Ridgway's dessert plate from their Oxford and Cambridge College series. Printed in medium blue with a view of Clare Hall, Cambridge in an octagonal frame. Set against a distinctive border of flowers on a stippled ground with four vignettes featuring classical figures and animals. In great condition - no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. Rare to find, especially in such good order. Fine blue rippled glaze. Printed cartouche 'Clare Hall Cambridge, J & W Ridgway'. Diameter 21cm (8.25in)
