John and Richard Riley 'Eastern Street Scene' Soup Plate c1820

A fine soup plate printed in dark medium blue with the 'Eastern Street Scene' pattern by John and Richard Riley of Burslem (1802-1828). A composite picture rather than based on one engraving, the scene shows a mixture of middle and far eastern influences. Framed by a striking border of peonies, lilies and sweet william. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration. Lovely blue rippled glaze. Printed 'Riley's Semi China' on a buckled strap. Diameter 25cm (9.9in)
