Information
A fine pearlware indented plate printed in dark medium blue with the 'Eastern Street Scene' pattern by John and Richard Riley of Burslem (1802-1828). A composite picture rather than based on one engraving, the scene shows a mixture of middle and far eastern influences. Framed by a striking border of peonies, lilies and sweet williams, it bears a panel with interlaced script initials 'JDI' signifying a special commission for a family or institution. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Lovely blue rippled glaze. Indistinctly impressed 'Riley'. Diameter 25cm (9.9in)
