Information
A lovely soup plate by John and Richard Riley of Burslem (1802-1828) printed in medium to dark blue with a vase of flowers on a blue stippled background which is continued in the border. A bold design, these dark blue wares were often made for export to America (I've seen a couple of Riley dinner plates for sale in the US with the same flowers, border and background but with a shell instead of the urn type vase). In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration. Fine age related crazing, but nothing to detract from the display value of this rare item. Printed 'Riley's Semi China' in blue. Diameter 25.5cm (10in)
