A fine World War 1 Grimwades Bruce Bairnsfather 'Old Bill' plate entitled "WHAT TIME DO THEY FEED THE SEA-LIONS, ALF?". Printed in sepia with Bruce Bairnsfather signature. In great condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Some age related crazing typical of these wares, but nothing to detract. Grimwades star and “Made by the Girls of Staffordshire during the Winter of 1917 when the Boys were in the trenches fighting for Liberty and Civilisation” backstamps. Diameter 23.5cm (9.25in)
