A rare Grimwade's Bruce Bairnsfather jug depicting two of his World War One 'Old Bill' cartoons with The Historical Touch "Well Alfred 'ow are the cakes?' to the front and 'When the 'ell is it going to be strawberry?' on the reverse. Printed in sepia with Bruce Bairnsfather signature. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration, with only a couple of minor misses to the brown ring near the rim and some mild age related crazing (quite typical of these wares and nothing to detract). Printed 'A Memento of the Great War, Commenced Aug 4th 1914; Armistice Nov 11th 1918; Peace Signed June 28th 1919' together with the Old Bill caricature. Height 15.9cm (6.25in)
