English Majolica Butter Dish & Stand with Cow Finial c1870 (Sold)

 A lovely covered butter dish and stand in the form of a brick wall with grasses growing up it. The lid repeats the theme with a cow finial, making it even more special, as majolica butter dishes are rare to find. The inside is washed with a pale brown glaze, which initially looks like staining, but it is meant to be that way. It's unmarked but most probably one of the good English factories as the colours and modelling are very crisp. In good condition without chips, cracks or restoration, and little signs of wear.
