A fine soup plate from the Rock Cartouche series of views by Elkin Knight. Byland Abbey lies about eight miles from Thirsk and was founded in 1138 by Cistercian monks. The ruins shown are the long nave and short transepts. Printed Rock Cartouche backstamp with 'Byland Abbey, Yorkshire'. In great condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Diameter 24.5cm (9.7ins) - slightly smaller than the other one listed.
