Information
In the 1850s, the American Mrs Bloomer caused quite a stir when she published an article in her early feminist magazine 'The Lily' suggesting women abandon their heavy petticoats in favour of Turkish style pantaloons, later adapted and called 'bloomers'. This little figure shows Mrs Bloomer in artistic pose, a leg raised to display the new fashion. Richly painted in cobalt blue, orange, green and (unusually) pink, the figure is in good condition, with few signs of wear. Displays beautifully, her features are particularly charming. Height 14cm (5.5in)
