Early Staffordshire Ironstone China Snake Handled 'Hydra' Jug c1825

An early 'imari' pattern ironstone jug, octagonal in shape with a snake handle (in the style of Mason's 'Hydra' shape). In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. A bold and very freely painted jug with loads of character. The modelling of the snake's head is particularly good and the detail is emphasized with a pale orange lustre. Impressed mark 'Ironstone China'. Height 13.5cm (5.3in)
