Information
A rare shape to find, this lovely pearlware bowl has early 'willow' pattern motifs, with large twisted willows, ornate pagodas and two figures on a bridge. The border is unusual too and composed of geometric stylised flowers, rather than the usual scrolls and moths. Printed in medium blue and finely potted with a very blue glaze. In good condition with a couple of minor rim problems. A glazed over factory chip and small glaze frit (see images 3 and 4), though neither detracts from this beautiful example of pearlware. Three stilt marks inside the bowl are also quite obvious and there is all over clean crazing of the glaze though not so obvious; both just highlight early manufacturing methods. Unmarked. Diameter 19.5cm (7.7in), height 7.8cm (3in)
