A fine example of a 'clobbered' blue and white chinoiserie pattern, the name 'Chinese Celtic' giving an exotic and ancient title to the design. This rare tart or dessert dish is printed in medium blue with oriental figures in a garden landscape - the detail overpainted or clobbered with lots of iron red, pink, yellow and green enamels. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. Impressed DAVENPORT with anchor and printed Chinese Celtic in blue. Diameter 22.5cm (8.8in)
