A superbly modelled Parian bust by Copeland after the sculpture 'Lesbia' by W C Marshall RA. Lesbia is the subject of 25 existing love poems by Catallus (circa 82-52 BC). She may have been a poet in her own right and her name is also associated with Sappho who came from the island of Lesbos. She is often shown in art with her sparrow, a reference to one of Catallus' poems. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Rare to find, especially in such good order.
