A finely detailed Copeland parian bust of Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847). Often referred to as The Liberator, he was a famous advocate, Irish political leader, slavery abolitionist and campaigner for Catholic emancipation. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Attached to a seperate socle with original brass bolt. Reduced by Cheverton from the 1846 sculpture by John Edward Jones. Impressed 'J. E. Jones Sculp 1846 Danl. O'Connell, Reduced by B. Cheverton'. Inside socle with traces of 'Copeland's Porcelain Statuary' mark. Height 24cm (9.45in)
