Colourful Begonia Leaf 'Eat thy Bread' Majolica Bread Platter c1880

A very unusual majolica 'motto' bread platter. 'Eat thy Bread with Thankfulness' in gothic script, with a vibrant begonia leaf central well and scrolled 'handles'. A striking piece in great condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration and very minimal signs of use. Typical majolica minute firing effects, stilt marks and gentle micro-crazing intrinsic to these wares, but nothing to detract from the value or display qualities of this rare item.
