A superb Clarice Cliff Biarritz shape dinner plate by Gordon Forsyth. A lovely design of scrolling feathers hand painted in blue and pink on a pale blue ground. Framed by a chevron border of blue and mauve dashes. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear or use. Rare to find, especially in such good order. Gordon Forsyth (1879-1952) had a huge influence on the standards and achievements of the British ceramics industry in the interwar years. He trained at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and then London’s Royal College of Art, became Art Director at Minton Hollins and then Pilkington's where he worked on their lustre wares. He later worked alongside Susie Cooper on Gloria Lustre for Gray’s Pottery. His most influential appointment was that of Superintendent of Art Instruction for Stoke-on-Trent City Art Schools in the 1920's.
