Burmantofts

Founded in 1858 for the production of utility wares (fire bricks, drainpipes, etc.), in 1879 under the management of James Holroyd and with the assistance of architect Maurice Bingham Adams, the development of Art Pottery began. For over two decades they were renowned for their colourful glazes and innovative designs, but with a decline in business at the turn of the century, Burmantofts closed their art pottery operation in 1904.
