A rare soup plate by J & M P Bell & Co. of Glasgow, printed in medium blue with a scene based on A W Calcott's painting 'Returning from Market' (note the change of title). The border has shield shaped medallions with equestrian and sailing ship vignettes. In excellent condition - no chips, cracks or restoration. Some minor age staining to the reverse, but nothing to detract from the display value of this lovely plate. Printed cartouche with 'Going to Market' and initials J & M P B & Co. Diameter 26cm (10.25in)
