'Barrel Staves & Floral Vine' twin handled Majolica Dish c1880

A lovely majolica dish in a rarer colourway of this collectable Barrel & Vine design. Vivid yellow, turquoise, pink and green make this a very stunning example; the handles in the form of twisted vines being a nice feature. In perfect condition, no chips, cracks or repairs, though there are some small firing defects - a few minor particles of grit to the face and the marks of the underneath dish near one handle to the reverse (image 5). This I feel adds character and shows the sometimes 'primitive' methods used, and doesn't compromise the display qualities or value of this superb piece. Length (handle to handle) 26.5cm (10.3in)
