Vintage Grimwades Royal Winton 'Carnation' Chintz Ascot 9" Cake Plate c1950 #1

A classic old Royal Winton Ascot shaped cake plate in the bold and striking 'Carnation' pattern. One of the early chintz designs produced by Grimwades and first mentioned in 1933. In good condition, no damage but the usual glaze crazing, more noticeable on the reverse. Usual also with this pattern are the white 'crease' lines of the transfer, part of the manufacturing process. Vibrant shaded pink carnations on a deep blue ground; a fine example of this rare chintz which displays beautifully. Old green art deco 'Grimwades, Royal Winton' mark and date impressed for 1950.
