A lovely bone china demitasse by Royal Doulton in 'Glamis Thistle' designed by Percy Curnock* bearing his facsimile signature. Delicately printed in shades of green, purple, yellow and brown with sprays of thistles which grow near Glamis Castle. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration and showing little sign of wear. Printed Royal Doulton marks and the inscription: 'GLAMIS THISTLE FOUND NEAR GLAMIS CASTLE HOME OF QUEEN ELIZABETH' (on saucer). H4601 and R1938. Date codes for 1950/51. Diameter of saucer 11.25cm (4.45in)

*Percy Curnock (1873-1956) was one of Doulton's longest serving artists, starting in 1885 at the age of 12 and retiring in 1954 aged 81. He specialized in floral painting, especially roses, and studied at the Burslem School of Art where he met Edward Raby, Fred Hancock and David Dewsbury. He trained under John Slater and Robert Allen, becoming a premier artist for Doulton.
