Rare Spode 'Sunflower or Convolvulus' Dinner Plate c1812 #1

Stock Status: In Stock
Information

A superb Spode dinner plate printed in medium blue with the early sheet pattern 'Sunflower' also known as 'Convolvulus'. Introduced in 1812, it features both flowers among dense leaves on a cellular ground. The quality of the engraving shines through on this rare item. In excellent antique condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Some minor utensil marks/scratches only really seen under magnification and nothing to detract. Finely potted and a lovely blue rippled glaze. Impressed '2' and printed SPODE within a blue linear rectangle used c1810/12 on only a few patterns (including 'Lattice Scroll' and 'Rome') - thought to be the mark of a particular engraver (see Drakard and Holdway p.322). Diameter 24.75cm (9.75in)
