Information
A rare 'Group' pattern oval dessert or chestnut basket and stand; one of the first floral patterns introduced by Spode around 1809. The rim of the stand and the basket itself have oval and wedge shaped piercings (a variation of the shape is illustrated in Spode by Drakard & Holdway p268 - S103). Printed in a medium blue with a fine rippled glaze, the oval piercings have been outlined in blue by hand. In great condition; the stand is perfect and the basket has a small hairline around one handle where it joins the body and an old glaze chip underneath (see image 5). Nothing serious or to detract from this lovely item. Spode workman's mark in underglaze blue to base of basket. Length of stand 23.5cm (9.25in)
