A superb Davenport dished and indented plate printed in medium blue with a scene previously called 'Tudor Mansion', but now generally acknowledged to be Bisham Abbey near Henley-on-Thames. A rural scene depicting the sixteenth century gabled abbey set amongst tall trees and two men with a net near a lake in the foreground, the whole framed by an unusual border of branches from the type of trees in the main picture. In excellent condition; no chips, cracks or restoration. Finely potted with a lovely rippled glaze and no foot rim. Impressed 'Davenport' with anchor - lower case letters signify the early mark c1798-1815; upper case letters used 1815-1860. Diameter 23.5cm (9.25in)
